Labour Mobility

Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA)

In 1995, all Provincial Premiers and the Prime Minister of Canada signed an Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT).  In December 2014, federal, provincial and territorial governments began negotiations to strengthen and modernize that agreement. The new Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA) resulted from these negotiations, entering into force on July 1st, 2017.

CFTA- Chapter 7

  • Requires provincial regulators to eliminate barriers to labour mobility in Canada
  • Includes 51 regulated professions (Agrology is one of them)

Eliminating Barriers

Agrology professionals who are qualified for employment in one province or territory should have access to employment opportunities in another province or territory. Agrologists-Agronomes Canada is working toward this ideal. We lead provincial regulators on a mission to:

  • Develop national standards for licensing
  • Reduce training, time and expenses for agrology professionals who want to move from province/territory to province/territory
