Council is pleased to announce the enactment of the new bylaws for the BC Institute of Agrologists (BCIA) effective March 1, 2020. The bylaws represent months of work by the Institute’s Governance Committee, Council, and staff. The new bylaws will guide BCIA forward as our profession continues its protection of the public interest and assists in the responsible development of British Columbia’s natural resources sector under the Professional Governance Act. We expect further amendments to the Bylaws by November 2020 to correspond with the full implementation of the Professional Governance Act.
The Bylaws can be found on the BCIA website under About BCIA – Agrologists Act, Bylaws & Governance section. Any questions or comments should be directed to BCIA’s Executive Director at ed@bcia.com
Please note that until such time that the Professional Governance Act is fully implemented, certain sections of the Agrologists Act will continue in force. The new bylaws are effective immediately as they were passed by Council on February 29 ,2020, as prior approval by the Registrants is not required. Some sections of the new bylaws, however; will still require ratification at the annual general meeting set for May 21st at Sun Peaks Resort and Conference Centre, Kamloops, in order to remain in force. Generally speaking, the provisions respecting the new Regional Electoral Districts, the election of the Vice-President from the pool of the seven (7) Registrant Councillors, and the removal of Councillors and Officers will be reviewed with the Registrants in attendance at the upcoming meeting. Any provisions that are not ratified will cease to have affect and will require Council to compose alternative electoral provisions.
